Following the departure of Celinet German from the AFS DOM office in June, the new AFS DOM Board asked AFS International for management support during their search process for a new Partner Director. In response to this request, the INT Business Development Consulting Team identified, arranged for, and is supporting Lucas Welter of AFS BRA in taking on the role of Acting Director for AFS DOM. He will be leading the office until 23 August.

Lucas, formerly a member of the AFS Brazil Board of Directors, was an AFS participant to Puerto Rico who returned to become an active volunteer and a leader in Policy Governance in both Brazil and the South Cone Region. Lucas currently leads the regional training effort in the South Cone, most recently organizing the successful Intercultural Learning Workshop in Buenos Aires in June.

Lucas was warmly welcomed by the Dominican AFS organization on 7 July, when he arrived just in time to participate in a national volunteer weekend. After getting acquainted with volunteers from around the organization, Lucas began his work in the office with the staff team last Monday. As you can see, Lucas has integrated quickly into the team based in Santo Domingo.

In the coming weeks AFS DOM and AFS INT will provide further updates on development plans and the selection of a permanent Director.
